Joseph Paul Hastings

Pontifical North American College, Rome 3rd Theology

My name is Joseph Hastings. I was born on 27 December 1986 and was raised in Memphis, TN.

St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bartlett, TN is the parish that I’ve called home for more than 15 years.

My call to priestly discernment came at a time when I was unsure what I wanted to do with my life. I had been out of college for about two years and had recently finished a fiction novel that I began writing in college. I thought God may have been calling me to get a Master’s degree in English or Creative Writing, but realized he had other plans for me. At a moment when I felt lost and confused about what to do with my life, in an instant God’s Divine Mercy intervened; healing wounds from past sins and giving me at least some hint of the direction he wanted me to take.

After visiting a few religious orders, and struggling to determine God’s will, I decided to apply for seminary, and was accepted and began studying for the Catholic Diocese of Memphis in August of 2014. I just finished up my pre-theology program at St. Joseph’s Seminary College in Covington, Louisiana, and have transferred to the Pontifical North American College in Rome to continue my formation.
